This role is part of BBC Studios, our global content company that supports the BBC Public Service mission of maximising the commercial returns to the license payer by building BBC brands, audiences, and reputation across the world.
The BBC Studios Product Group is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of the Studios portfolio of products - direct-to-consumer, business-to-business and enabling.
Our portfolio is diverse but is fully focused on supporting our functions and businesses around the globe whether that be back-office functions, content production or direct to consumer offerings. We are a growing function and will provide an important contribution to the business growth targets over the coming years.
Core to that growth will be the launching and / or growth of new or enhanced digital products into the market to monetize our content offering. You will be joining the team as a key member for the direction and delivery of one of our products - BBC Player - that is subject to ambitious growth plans.

Studios Product Group is a multi-functional team focused on delivery of world class Products within BBC Studios. We are an agile team delivering big change. We work in a fast-paced environment more akin to a start-up.
Our products include several marquee brands including BBC.COM, Bluey and Top Gear, as well as a number of market leading B2B products.
You will join a team where everyone - including you - strives to better understand our customers and improve our products daily.

Role Responsibility
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced fullstack-oriented Senior Software Engineer to take ownership of our newly build stack. Maintaining the CMS ingestion pipeline, writing performant and resilient APIs and deliver a brilliant experience to our user on our NextJS website.
You will also have the opportunity to work with Technical Architects, Delivery Managers, Business Analysts and Product Managers to influence the shape of our products.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Excellent knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS
- Excellent knowledge of Typescript
- Excellent knowledge of NextJS or ReactJS
- Excellent knowledge of NodeJS
- Experience designing and developing APIs
- Experience using Lambda, ApiGateway, SNS/SQS, Terraform
- Experience using JS build tools - Grunt, Yarn, Webpack
- Experience writing testable code (TDD, BDD or similar)
- Understanding of performance optimisation on high traffic websites
- Accessibility Standards
- Responsive web design
- Experience of working within an Agile software development environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Excellent attention to detail

- Expertise in mainstream development frameworks.
- Expertise in test driven development, broader testing and QA concerns.

- Effective leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team. The ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders effectively.
- Takes responsibility for delivering products and system to successful implementation.
