At a glance:
  • The salary range for this role is up to £80,000
  • This is a fixed term position up to 18 months
  • This is a hybrid role, with occasional requirement to work from the London Head Office or other locations.
About the role:

As the Senior Compliance Officer, you will be accountable for ensuring John Lewis Partnership (JLP) is compliant with all regulatory and legal requirements for financial services (FS) products. You will be the compliance advisory SME supporting FS product lines, overseeing FS regulatory compliance policies, procedures and controls as well as supporting ad hoc regulatory transformation projects.

This opportunity requires a subject matter expert with experience of FCA consumer credit and/or insurance regulations and a fluent understanding of core FCA rules, including Consumer Duty and Conduct Standards.

Key responsibilities:
  • Providing regulatory advice, oversight and challenge on internal policies, processes, systems and controls for current and future propositions. This will include the application of rules and technical regulation where required.

  • Ensuring JLP's credit broking and insurance intermediary activities operate in accordance with all regulatory and legal obligations.

  • Supporting as appropriate the application, maintenance and variation of regulatory permissions related to consumer credit and/or insurance activities, and liaison with the regulator.

  • Building close and effective relationships with JL Retail and Trading teams to ensure legal / regulatory compliance and to minimise any brand or reputational risk to JLP.

  • Ensuring robust controls are in place and work effectively.

  • Ensuring auditable reporting of the Compliance framework, including all supporting policies and procedures.
What will you be doing?
  • Providing advice on consumer credit, insurance intermediary and core compliance requirements for new and future propositions to ensure good customer outcomes throughout the product life cycle

  • Embedding and monitoring the Risk and Compliance Framework which evidences JLP's adherence to all relevant laws and regulations

  • Leading regulatory engagement and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to prepare, review and submit documentation relating to the application, maintenance and variation of regulatory permissions

  • Implementing policies and processes to ensure effective oversight and robust controls are in place.

  • Work with JLP stakeholders to develop / embed an appropriate risk and control environment and a customer centric culture.

  • Providing training to the JLP business on applicable consumer credit and/or insurance regulation

  • Attend relevant governance fora, and create reports for internal governance committees as required.
Essential skills you'll need:
  • Experience in compliance/regulatory advisory, ideally with experience of implementing large regulatory change projects

  • Experience of regulatory engagement

  • Deep understanding of FCA rules and regulation, with particular focus on consumer credit and/or insurance and regulatory permissions. AML/KYC knowledge and experience is not required for this role.

  • Significant and demonstrable experience in stakeholder management (including regulatory engagement and providing advice at director level), reporting and analytics

  • Detailed understanding of core compliance requirements, including SM&CR and SYSC requirements

  • Knowledge and awareness of UK Financial Services regulatory framework and understanding of FCA Conduct requirements and Consumer Duty
Desirable skills you'll have:
  • Practical knowledge of Appointed Representative (AR) frameworks and associated requirements

  • CISI Compliance Diploma or equivalent experience

  • ICA/CII Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance
