Team Overview
The Insurance Solutions team is a global specialist, product agnostic investment strategy and structuring team which focuses on serving insurance clients through the entire BlackRock platform. The team is comprised of investment, insurance, risk and advisory specialists with diverse backgrounds from across asset management, insurance companies, investment banks and consultancy.
The team works with all client and investment teams at BlackRock to originate, design and implement investment strategies that are appropriate for insurers, using our expertise of insurance investment under regulatory, accounting and enterprise constraints.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough knowledge of BlackRock's global investment platform, technology and other capabilities of relevance to insurance clients. Identify gaps in existing service provision and drive the development of new services to exploit emerging client needs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior internal partners across the global insurance business, distribution channels and investment teams. Work with these partners to design and deliver holistic solutions for insurers and generate strong commercial outcomes
- Directly, and in partnership with the sales channel, engage senior officers at insurance clients on their enterprise-wide priorities. Use your knowledge of insurers' businesses to give clients confidence that BlackRock understands how to manage their assets under insurance constraints and to identify opportunities to deploy BlackRock technology and expertise in a manner that builds stronger commercial relationships
- Directly manage teams delivering advisory engagements, focused on asset allocation, risk management, ALM and platform intellectual property, that lead to the origination of commercial opportunities and deepen existing insurance client relationships
- Keep abreast of the implications of regulatory and accounting regimes such as Solvency II, Solvency UK and IFRS, for insurers' investment needs. Provide internal portfolio management, product strategy and distribution teams with insurance focused regulatory and accounting expertise and guide them on the implications for investment strategy
- Support portfolio management, product strategy and distribution channels across the platform with insurance investment, regulatory, accounting and liability expertise to help position existing, or design new, investment management products and services appropriate for insurers
- Assist the platform with the production of insurance-focused research and thought leadership publications
Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships based on technical knowledge with clients and internal partner teams
- At least 10 years of insurance industry experience gained within an insurance company, asset manager, investment bank, consultancy or similar institution
- Significant and broad practical experience in the design and implementation of investment and ALM strategies utilised by insurers when managing assets invested to meet liabilities
- Strong knowledge of the business models of UK insurance companies and the regulatory and accounting constraints under which they operate. Familiarity with the business models of insurers across EMEA ex UK and the ways in which they deploy assets in their insurance business
- Detailed understanding of Solvency II and Solvency UK regulations, particularly the UK Matching Adjustment framework. Good understanding of IFRS 9 and continental European local accounting regimes and their implications for insurance companies' investment strategies and asset allocation.
- Skills commensurate with holding an investment, risk management, actuarial or other technical role in a life assurance, reinsurance or banking environment would be advantageous
