The project:

A major London based infrastructure programme is being mobilised to deliver the capacity and capability required to meet growing demand, in line with a commitment to a long-term sustainable future. The objectives of the programme are to progress the delivery of additional capacity to accommodate long-term demand growth in line with decarbonisation goals, create resilient assets and optimise operations against the backdrop of a live operating asset. This is a significant infrastructure programme for a prestigious and ambitious client, offering significant potential for professional growth over the duration of the programme.

Responsible for the operational leadership of health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) in a designated business/portfolio of work. Accountable for influencing, building, maintaining, and strengthening internal and external stakeholder relationships and where applicable, lead and develop teams.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Responsible for assuring the assessment, management and mitigation of risk in accordance with regulation and business standards.
  • Drives change through communication, persuasion, engagement and innovation.
  • Supports the integration of the operational HSW job family into an efficient, effective and cohesive team.
  • Monitors and report on performance, provide advice, guidance and expertise as needed.
  • Translates business strategy and objectives into local business plan/s.
  • Collaborates with operational directors to deliver cost effective and efficient performance.
  • Develops and delivers agreed local business plan/s to time, quality and budget.
  • Supporting succession planning and career development activities for team/s.
  • Collaborates with the assurance function in the pursuit of continuous improvement.
  • Engages and influences identified business and industry stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and effective escalation of non-compliance issues they are unable to influence or achieve a satisfactory conclusion to.
  • Manages a large team (or several terams) of direct reports, driving the appropriate behaviours to achieve success & key performance indicators (KPIs), including a continuous improvement culture.
  • Provides performance management, technical & career development and coaching.
You'll need to have:
  • Experience and knowledge of HSW, legislation and delivery relevant to the sector and industry.
  • Implementation and development of management systems and the certification process.
  • Knowledge of assurance and audit strategies.
  • Knowledge of risk management and mitigation work in a major organisation.
  • Knowledge of assessing competency of team members, applying their competence to the right roles and create development plans.
  • Knowledge of understanding of enterprise and project risk management.
  • Knowledge of being able to present a range of technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience leading and managing health, safety and wellbeing, in a large complex organisation and achieving key results.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships at a senior level.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage, coach and develop teams and individuals.
  • Change management experience.
  • Communication and presenting skills.
  • Client facing experience.
  • Self-motivated and purpose led.
  • Able to motivate a team.
  • Leadership of cross functional team.
  • Excellent tactical delivery skills.
  • Deliver results through influencing and negotiation.

  • Professional qualification (or equivalent).
  • Relevant experience of management in a large organisation.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
You'll also have:
  • Business planning and budgetary control skills, strong commercial acumen.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant industry.
  • Experience of setting policy and standards.
  • Membership/representation at industry forum/s.
  • Delivering and embedding change management in a timely manner.
  • Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Chartered membership in HSW or recognised HSW professional body.
