Brief Description
Job Introduction:

Are you an expert in telecommunications with a passion for shaping the future of enterprise strategy and technology? Network Rail is seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Enterprise Architect (EA) to join our EA practice as part of our Digital, Data and Technology Services department.

As a member of our Enterprise Architecture team, you will leverage your extensive experience in fixed and mobile telecommunications carrier operations and enterprise architecture to develop strategy and deliver our consulting services. Your strategic insights will drive the transformation of our telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring Network Rail delivers the highest levels of performance and safety to our customers.

You'll work with senior stakeholders, the architecture practice and a variety of suppliers and vendors to drive change, strategically plan, and prioritize investments of around 100 million annually, playing a key role in the railway's digital transformation using your Enterprise Architecture skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Building strong and sustainable relationships and collaborating with your Network Rail Route and Regional customers to promote the value of Enterprise Architecture, DDaT and our services across the business.
  • Creating actionable digital strategies, through the assessment of disruptive forces and business problems impacting Network Rail and industry. Identify the areas for improvement through digital transformation of services, platforms, technology and operating models.
  • Delivering Enterprise Architecture (EA) services (e.g. strategies and roadmaps, digital advice, business and technology consulting, and reference architectures) by producing artefacts in support of customer initiatives.
  • Lead key improvement initiatives for Enterprise Architecture and the wider architecture practice within Network Rail to improve our services, our value to the organisation, and the way we operate.
  • Supporting in key governance forums through attendance and contribution to strategy, architecture, design, portfolio and programme boards.
  • Continually developing new knowledge and expertise in the latest EA tools, techniques, market trends and technologies through self-learning and/or formal training where available to enable the delivery of EA services.

About the role (External)
Essential

  • Knowledge of current and emerging telecommunications technologies and their use (fixed, mobile & voice communications)
  • Demonstrable skills in strategy development
  • Business and commercial acumen understanding business models, financial drivers, and competition
  • The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) / Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) or equivalent certification
  • Bachelor's or masters degree in business, information systems or related discipline, or equivalent and extensive related experience
  • Proven experience in all components of enterprise architecture business, information, application and technology architecture
  • Excellent interpersonal and soft skills including negotiation, influencing, communication, facilitation and teamwork
  • Familiarity with current information management practices and digital/EA frameworks and practices
  • Ability to rapidly learn and apply new technologies, business concepts and methodologies to solve business problems

Desirable

  • Experience of railway, transportation, utilities or engineering industries
  • Information security concepts, standards, infrastructure and technologies
  • Enterprise architecture tooling and EA data management and reporting
  • Leadership experience in other parts of the IT lifecycle including build, service, operations, supplier management
  • Experience in providing management or technology consulting services
  • Management & leadership experience
